[ARCHIVED] Capital Improvement Projects: What to Expect in Truckee from Spring to Fall 2025

As Truckee gears up for another busy construction season, several key Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) are set to enhance our town’s infrastructure, connectivity, and public spaces. From newly completed park amenities to critical roadway and trail upgrades, these projects will bring lasting benefits to residents and visitors alike.

DEWBEYÚMUWEɁ PARK (formerly West River Street Park)

Located at 10257 West River Street along the scenic Truckee River, DEWBEYÚMUWEɁ PARK offers a tranquil riverfront park space. The park is now substantially complete, featuring pathways, landscaped areas, lighting, picnic tables, benches, and a restroom. A stabilization project for the slope between the park and the Truckee River is planned for summer/fall 2025. The photo below captures the installation of the new restrooms earlier this month, though they are not yet accessible to the public. For more details or inquiries, please reach out to Nola Mitchell at nmitchell@townoftruckee.gov.

Riverview Sports Park Trail Connection Project

The Riverview Sports Park Trail Connection Project is set to begin construction in summer and fall 2025. The project includes a new ¼-mile, 10-foot-wide paved trail, as well as an asphalt overlay on the existing Truckee Legacy Trail spur connecting to the Sports Park. Once complete, this trail will connect Joerger Ranch Trail to the Legacy Trail, improving access for hikers, bikers, and visitors. Temporary trail closures and detours may be in place throughout construction. Please be mindful of construction zones and follow posted signage. For more information, contact Blake Kloczl at bkloczl@townoftruckee.gov.

2025 Roadway Vegetation Management Project

In partnership with the Truckee Fire Protection District, the Town of Truckee’s Engineering Division will implement the 2025 Roadway Vegetation Management Project in summer and fall 2025. This initiative involves vegetation removal and chipping along Donner Pass Road, Donner Lake Road, and South Shore Drive. The primary goal is to improve defensible space for fire safety, while also enhancing roadway visibility, maintaining clear zones, and facilitating snow removal. For questions or additional information, contact Slater Stewart at sstewart@townoftruckee.gov.

2025 Paving and Drainage Project

Scheduled to begin in spring/summer 2025, the 2025 Paving and Drainage Project will repave approximately 10 miles of roadway and 4.5 miles of trail, with several drainage and utility upgrades. Notable traffic impacts are expected along West River Street during paving prep and operations. The Legacy Trail will also experience closures as part of utility improvements and paving. Work will occur from the Regional Park Lower BBQ Area to the East River Street Bridge, as well as from the Glenshire Trailhead to the 2024 Paving Project area near the Tahoe-Truckee Sanitation Agency Plant. Please be cautious and respectful of construction activity and trail closures during this time. For questions, contact Riley Powers at rpowers@townoftruckee.gov.

As these projects take shape from spring through fall 2025, we appreciate your patience and cooperation. These improvements will enhance public spaces, fire safety, trail access, and roadway conditions for years to come. Stay tuned for updates and thank you for being a part of Truckee’s progress!
