The Town of Truckee, in conjunction with the Climate Transformation Alliance and the Sierra Business Council, has launched a rebate program for local residents and business owners who want to swap out their old exterior lighting for newer lights that are downward facing and energy efficient. These types of lights significantly reduce light pollution and can also be put on a motion sensor, so they are not constantly on. In June 2024, the Truckee Town Council made modifications to the newly launched program which included the addition of a $20 bonus per fixture for lighting fixtures with motion sensors.
Program Eligibility & Benefits
- Rebates will be released on a first-come-first-serve basis, until funds are expended.
- Available for commercial buildings, single-family homes, and multifamily housing buildings with a physical location within the Town of Truckee boundaries.
- Covers 100% of qualified outdoor lighting equipment up to the specified rebate amount.
- Can cover cost of light bulbs if fixture amount is below rebate limit.
- Lighting fixtures with motion sensors will receive a $20 bonus per fixture.
