[ARCHIVED] Small Business, Big Applause: Tahoe Moving & Storage Recognized for Exemplary Community Service

At the May 27th Truckee Town Council meeting, Mayor Jan Zabriskie proudly presented the Small Business, Big Applause award to Tahoe Moving & Storage in recognition of their outstanding service and deep commitment to the greater community.

The Small Business, Big Applause award honors local businesses that go above and beyond in their service to others, demonstrating exceptional leadership, generosity, and community impact. Tahoe Moving & Storage’s recent efforts during a statewide disaster relief mission stood as a clear example of that spirit in action.

Earlier this year, when devastating wildfires swept through the Los Angeles region, Councilmember Henderson organized a local relief effort to gather urgently needed supplies. Truckee residents responded with overwhelming generosity, donating nearly 7,500 pounds of essential goods. But delivering that support to those in need required more than compassion, it required action.

That’s when Doug Croney, owner of Tahoe Moving & Storage, stepped forward. Without hesitation, he donated the company’s time, staff, and resources to ensure the supplies reached their destination. One of his employees, Gabe, was assigned to drive the fully loaded 24-foot box truck from Truckee to the LA Dream Center, where the donations were distributed directly to wildfire victims.

This was not about recognition, it was about doing what was right. And in that moment, a small business from a small mountain town made a big difference across our state.

Tahoe Moving & Storage’s response reflects the core of Truckee’s community values: a place where small businesses, fueled by compassion and leadership, have the power to make a meaningful impact well beyond town limits.
