The Town of Truckee is excited to share the Modular and Kit Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) page, a new resource for homeowners looking to build an ADU.
The webpage provides information on eight companies that will work with homeowners to build a prefabricated “prefab” ADU in Truckee. Prefab construction, which includes modulars and kits, is a valuable tool that can reduce ADU overall construction time and typically reduces project costs through a streamlined design and building process.
Due to high, unpredictable costs and severe weather impacts associated with site-built construction, it is often difficult to find modular and kit ADUs that can work in the Truckee region, primarily due to high snow loads. After researching countless modular and kit manufacturers, Truckee’s ADU team interviewed the eight prefab companies below based on their stated interest and ability to provide ADU models that meet Truckee’s high snow loads, Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) codes, building codes, and Truckee’s other design criteria.
Prefab building is a valuable tool for creating more sustainable and affordable workforce housing development. The goal of this new resource is to increase the accessibility of ADU construction in Truckee and offer a solution for some of the challenges Truckee homeowners must face when trying to build an ADU in the region.
We encourage interested homeowners to reach out to companies directly.
