Are you a current Town employee looking to rent or purchase a home? Or are you thinking of relocating to join the Town of Truckee team? This page provides resources for current and prospective Town of Truckee employees to assist in their search for housing.

Rental Resources

  • The Mountain Housing Council's Looking for Housing page has many helpful resources for those in need of housing. Amongst other resources, this page links the various Facebook pages that are highly utilized by renters looking for housing, those in need of housemates, and those renting houses out.
  • Placemate is a Truckee-based company that helps homeowners providing rental housing and tenants in need of a place to live find one another. Make a renter's profile for free to gain access to the list of homes Placemate is helping to rent out. Placemate administers the Lease to Locals program for the Town of Truckee in which homeowners can receive up to $18,000 in exchange for a long-term lease with members of the local workforce.

Home Purchase Assistance Programs

Truckee Home Purchase Programs

  • The Truckee Home Access Program will be a new deed-restricted housing purchase program offered by the Town of Truckee. The program is set to launch in fall 2022. The Town will offer up to 16% of the appraised home value or $150,000 to local workforce members looking to purchase a home in exchange for a deed restriction on the home.

Regional Home Purchase Programs

  • The Martis Fund Homebuyer Assistance Program provides up to $50,000 down payment assistance to income-qualified families working in Eastern Placer County and in the Town of Truckee to help them purchase homes. Martis Fund Homebuyer Assistance Program
  • The Workforce Housing Preservation Program is a homebuyer assistance program designed to secure our existing housing inventory for the local workforce. The program pays homebuyers up to 16% of the purchase price towards a down payment (based on available funding) in exchange for a deed restricting their home so that it can only be occupied by local workers. The funding can help homebuyers with down payments or complete renovations.

State of California Home Purchase Programs

  • The Cal Home Reuse Program provides funds of up to $80,000 for first-time home buyers who meet specific qualifications via a loan at a 3% interest rate with deferred interest and payments. Applications for these funds are processed as available on a first-come-first-served basis. Applicants must be first-time homebuyers and household income must be below 80% of area median income (AMI).
  • The BEGIN Reuse Program provides funds of up to $80,000 for first-time home buyers who meet specific qualifications via a loan at a 3% interest rate with deferred interest and payments of up to $80,000. Applications for these funds are processed as available on a first-come-first-served basis. Applicants must be first-time homebuyers and household income must be below 120% of area median income (AMI).

Resources Specifically for Town Employees

  • The Truckee Tahoe Workforce Housing Agency (TTWHA) is a Joint Powers Authority comprised of the North Lake Tahoe/Truckee Area's 7 largest public employers, including the Town of Truckee. TTWHA's goal is to help employees of these member agencies find housing so they can continue to serve the community that they love. Available resources include general support navigating housing options, access to member-only long-term lease listings, and home purchase education assistance, among others.   • The TTWHA works with Landed to offer a new home purchase assistance program. This program helps essential professionals purchase homes by providing up to $120,000 toward a down payment through a shared equity down payment program, and by connecting employees to homebuying resources. The Landed down payment program is currently paused due to market conditions, but interested applicants can be placed on a waiting list.
