Fire Code & Safety Requirements

During the registration process, each short-term rental is required to submit a Fire Safety Self-Certification Form (PDF) to confirm compliance with fire code and safety requirements. The physical inspection completed by the Truckee Fire Protection District will confirm compliance with the same items listed on the self-certification.

Items inspected include:

• Posted street address visible form the street
• Defensible space maintained around the structure
• Fire extinguishers
• Ash can that is clearly labeled for ash disposal
• Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms
• Fire sprinkler systems (if applicable)
• Minimum bedroom requirements
• Emergency communications i.e. working landline phone or Voice Over Internet Protocol phone
• Breaker Panel
• Outdoor wood burning fireplaces and charcoal grills of any type are prohibited
• Location of gas grill and BBQs, and natural gas/propane burning fireplaces
• Interior posting requirements

STR Fire Safety Inspection

The STR Fire Safety Inspection is required every 3 years from the date of initial registration approval.
